Internship Opportunities in Chile

The U.S. Commercial Service has an active internship program throughout the year, and we welcome applications from suitable candidates to work alongside our staff at the U.S. Embassy in Chile.

Our work pursues two key objectives:

  • To assist U.S. companies with their efforts to enter the Chilean market through representation, direct sales, licensing agreements, or joint ventures.
  • To assist Chilean companies in forming business relationships with U.S. companies by representing U.S. products, importing goods, or through joint venture and licensing arrangements.

To support these objectives, our office counsels U.S. companies, analyzes information on the Chilean market, facilitates contacts with Chilean businesses, promotes U.S. products, and advocates U.S. business interests.

The intern will mostly assist with trade development and promotion activities associated with international partner searched, trade missions, trade events, company list preparation and trade shows.  The intern will also answer general trade inquiries from American companies requesting information on doing business in Chile, and Chilean companies seeking American products and services by phone.   Clerical work will be part of the everyday assist to the commercial specialists and assistants.  The inter will occasionally work with a commercial specialist conducting market research and drafting reports based on timely market information or comprehensive analysis of a particular industry in Chile.

While we prefer interns with International Business, Business Administration or Marketing majors, we will consider all appropriate applicants.

Please note that interns do not receive any compensation, and no housing or other financial assistance is available.

Requirements

In order to qualify for an internship, potential candidates should be:

  • Available for a minimum of three months
  • Enrolled in an accredited American academic program and returning to studies immediately after the internship
  • In possession of a U.S. passport*
  • Spanish speaking although basic level is required.

* Other nationalities are welcome to apply, however, please be aware that the security clearance process is likely to take additional time.

All acceptances are subject to a security clearance prior to beginning work at the Embassy, which generally takes 3 months to complete. Please ensure to allow a sufficient amount of time to process both your application and security clearance.
