The following documents the process steps, guidance, and training materials in support of the EA Information maintenance policy.

Step A: Create/Maintain Inventory

Summary:

Maintaining a complete and accurate inventory is the first major step - and most important. Policy dictates that Bureau CIOs must maintain accurate and complete inventories.

Step B: Integrate OCIO Information

Summary:

Assuring that the inventory is detailed across CIO divisions including Capital Planning and Investment Control (CPIC) and the DOI Security CyberOffice for Certification and Accreditation (C&A) purposes. Continuing integration across the OCIO includes Privacy.

  • C&A boundaries are managed by the IT Security Team and Interior Architecture Working Group (IAWG) combined. Business rules of relationships from the inventory to reference models are managed via the DEAR C&A Boundary Wizard.
  • Privacy Attributes used for external and internal reporting are provided by Privacy Officers and entered by them or the Bureau IT Security Manager.
  • Capital Planning and Investment Control (CPIC) tracks investments and provides this information the DOI EA Program on a yearly basis. Selected EA information from this data is imported and related to the inventory on a yearly basis.
  • Other General CIO information such as Information on Indian Trust Data reporting status or Person Roles are maintained by the Architect for each System.

Step C: Describe with Reference Models

Summary:

Reference model maintenance is governed by specific Architecture goverance teams. These references models are used to describe the enterprise and the inventory. Policy rules for relating each reference model to the inventory are managed via the DEAR System Wizard.

Step D: Capture/Maintain EA Models

Summary:

Architectural modeling is guided by the Methodology for Business Transformation as to what models needed to be created at what step within the process. Further Guidance is being developed on specifically how to capture these models within DEAR.

See MBT Step 4 for planning what you need to collect first in order to determine what information will be needed for business transformation findings and recommendation support. After doing that use, create a workbook of the multiple tasks from the existing templates.
