General Information

Provides guidance and leadership for the Department’s compliance with Executive Order 13423 “Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management” on environmental management systems implementation and other environmental laws and requirements.

Promotes and reports on sustainable practices across the Department in areas including electronic stewardship, sustainable buildings, and green purchasing, and environmental auditing and provides information relating to these activities through its "Greening the Interior" website.

Provides recognition for environmental stewardship through the Department’s Environmental Achievement Awards Program and submits the Department’s entries for the White House Closing the Circle Awards Program.

Coordinates the Department's submission of the external semi-annual Environmental Stewardship Scorecard to the Office of Management and Budget and monitors bureau and office actions for the Department’s internal quarterly Environmental Stewardship Scorecard.

Coordinates with the Army Corps of Engineers (externally) and bureaus (internally) regarding activities associated with Formerly Used Defense Sites within the Department.
