Case Updates: U.S. v. Jaime Ligator

United States v. Jaime Ligator et. al.,– Court Docket Number: 3:07-CR-119-W

Before the Honorable Judge Frank D. Whitney, Courtroom 1, United States Courthouse, 401 W. Trade Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. Defendant Alfredo Susi was found guilty following a jury trial on April 2, 2008. Defendant Jaime Ligator remains in custody in Costa Rica awaiting extradition for trial. Allen Fialkoff has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.

Alfredo Susi

On April 2, 2008, a jury found Alfredo Susi guilty of on all counts of an indictment, filed in June 2007, that charged Susi with one count of conspiracy (Count 1: 18 U.S.C. § 371) and nineteen counts of wire fraud (Counts 4-7, 11-24:18 U.S.C. § 1343), with a telemarketing fraud enhancement, stemming from a massive, Costa Rica-based telemarketing fraud scheme that targeted thousands of U.S. residents, resulting in victim losses of more than $10 million. The jury also returned a special verdict of $1.885 million in forfeiture. Five counts of wire fraud (Counts 2, 3, 8, 9 & 10) were dismissed on March 31, 2008, prior to the start of the trial. Sentencing is set for November 21, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.

Chad Michael Schneider

Chad Michael Schneider entered a guilty plea on February 27, 2008 and was ordered detained by Judge Frank D. Whitney on April 16, 2008. Schneider was sentenced on August 18, 2008 to 51 months' incarceration, 3 years' supervised release and ordered to pay $5 million in restitution, jointly and severally with his co-defendants.

Allen Fialkoff

Pled guilty on August 27, 2007 and was sentenced on October 28, 2008 to 28 months' incarceration and ordered to pay $5 million in restitution, jointly and severally with his co-defendants.

Sheldon Brenowitz

Pled guilty on September 26, 2007. Brenowitz was sentenced on September 26, 2008, to 51 months' incarceration, 3 years' supervised release and ordered to pay $10 million in restitution, jointly and severally with his co-defendants in related cases.

Sheldon Brenowitz and Chad Michael Schneider are on bond; Alfredo Susi and Allen Fialkoff are in custody.
