To ESL Discussion List Members:

In response to the heated discussion on the ESL discussion list, Lynda
Terrill, the list moderator, referred to the Discussion List "Netiquette"
and mentioned that messages posted to the NIFL-ESL listserv should promote
learning in the "spirit of inquiry, curiosity and mutual respect."

Please note that since there are about 900 members on this list, postings
that are addressed to or pertain to individual members should be kept off
the list.

Like many other public platforms, print and online media, strong and,
sometimes, opposing views on current issues are openly expressed on this
list. Views reflected by participants on this or other NIFL discussion
lists do not represent NIFL's position on the issues. The content of these
messages - where the discourse relates current issues to instruction and
methods of teaching - should serve as a resource for teachers and
practitioners about ESL, adult education and literacy. Comments,
suggestions, references and ideas posted on this list should remain within
that focus. This practice establishes a foundation for this list and its
members to collaborate and to present ideas and thoughts with respect.

It is not our policy to arbitrate discussion on the lists; NIFL appreciates
your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
