October is Crime Prevention Month and communities across the Nation will be highlighting their efforts and progress in the fight against crime, October 2–4, during the first ever Celebrate Safe Communities week.
The Department of Justice and its Office of Justice Programs (OJP) are committed to working with communities to make our communities safer and reduce the number of people victimized by criminals.
In Fiscal Year 2008, OJP awarded more than $1.6 billion in grants to more than 3,000 state, local, and tribal law enforcement and criminal justice partners to assist in crime prevention efforts and to support the justice system of the United States.
