Galice to Foster Bar

Route 1 - Bear Camp Road and Peavine/Serpentine Springs Route

  • Distance: Distance: 44 miles, one-way, Galice to Foster Bar - Estimated driving time: 2 hours, one-way.
  • Description and hazards: Paved one and two-lane narrow, winding, mountain roads. Most sections are one-lane with blind curves and turnouts. Not recommended for RVs. Always look ahead, as slides, rocks, other vehicles and logging trucks may be encountered. There are no gas stations or services along these routes so be prepared with a full tank of gas and plenty of water. There is a gas station and mini-market at Cougar Lane, about 8 miles southwest (toward the coast) from Foster Bar.
  • Use period: Normally open to two-wheel drive vehicles from May through October. Closes in the winter, due to snow and slides. Check with the US Forest Service or the Bureau of Land Management before traveling this road in the winter.

Not recommended for RVs. Always look ahead, as slides, rocks, other vehicles and logging trucks may be encountered. There are no gas stations or services along these routes so be prepared with a full tank of gas and plenty of water. There is a gas station and mini-market at Cougar Lane, about 8 miles southwest (toward the coast) from Foster Bar.

Route 4 - Oregon Hwy 199 and US Hwy 101/Winter Route

  • Distance: 193 miles, one-way, Galice to Foster Bar - Estimated driving time: 4 hours, one-way.
  • Description and hazards: Two-lane, all-weather, paved state highway. Section between Gold Beach and Agness is subject to slides during the winter. Gas, food, and lodging are available along this route. This is the best route for large recreational vehicles and vehicles towing camping trailers.
