Texas Book FestivalTexans had long dreamed of a festival commemorating the state's long-standing literary tradition. In late 1995, with the backing of Laura Bush, a former librarian and an ardent advocate of reading, the dream became a reality. Under Mrs. Bush's guidance as Honorary Chair, a task force began planning the festival. Gradually, the vision crystallized. Within a few years, the Texas Book Festival became one of the premier literary festivals in the country. Now in its thirteenth year, the Texas Book Festival is more than a celebration of books and Texas writers; it is also a celebration of the joys of reading and a benefit for the public libraries of the Lone Star State. In its relatively short history, the Texas Book Festival has hosted more than 2000 authors. The 2008 Texas Book Festival will be held November 1-2 at the State Capitol Building in Austin. Festival founder Mrs. Bush continues to serve as Honorary Chairman.
