California

  • San Joaquin Valley - The National Weather Service - San Joaquin Valley Forecast Office, located in Hanford, CA, is working together with the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, to promote Air Quality Awareness Week. Air Quality Awareness week will be held April 28-May 2, and will feature daily informational messages, press releases, and more.     July 7 through 13 is also Healthy Air Living week in the San Joaquin Valley, a time to focus on making everyday decisions that help clean up our air. During that week, you can carpool, ride a bike, use public transportation or find another way to get around town. Your workplace can even sponsor activities that emphasize better air quality. Kansas

  • The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is holding Air Quality Awareness Week, April 28- May 2, 2008. During the week email messages will be sent out about waste reduction and waste conservation.

Michigan

  • Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm has signed a proclamation to support Air Quality Awareness Week 2008.

  • Grand Rapids - The Grand Valley Metropolitan Council is holding its Ozone Action kickoff on Friday, May 2 from 12:00-2:00 pm. The event is by invitation only. Invited members include the ozone steering committee, local meteorologists and media contacts.

  • Greater Lansing Area – The Capital Area Transit Authority is holding its Clean Commute Challenge September 22 – 26th, 2008. During the week, individuals, businesses and local college campuses will compete against each other for who can log the most “clean commutes.” There will be various activities each day to highlight different forms of clean commuting.

North Carolina

  • Charlotte – The NC Air Awareness Program will hold its Ozone Season Kick-off and Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb (CFL) sale on Saturday, April 19th at Earth Day Charlotte 2008 at Ray’s Splash Planet. New Jersey

Ohio

  • Columbus - The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is holding the fourth annual Clean Air Fair on Wednesday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clean Air Fair familiarizes downtown Columbus employees with information on respiratory health, green technologies and fuels, healthy lifestyles, and transportation choices—ultimately raising awareness of voluntary actions they can take to reduce pollution. Last year, the Clean Air Fair educated and entertained over 1000 employees from American Electric Power, Nationwide, City of Columbus and the State of Ohio.

    Once again we will be honoring individuals and organizations that have accomplished outstanding leadership in improving air quality in central Ohio through our Clean Air Awards, which are presented at the Clean Air Fair.

South Carolina

  • Greenville – The County of Greenville is sponsoring a Car Care Clinic/Lawnmower Exchange on April 26, 2008 at the Greenville Automotive Center. For more information, please contact Sandra Yudice at syudice@greenvillecounty.org

Texas

  • Victoria - The City of Victoria Environmental Services is hosting “On the Air” - a contest for students who attend high school in Victoria, TX to produce a television Public Service Announcement (PSA) about current air quality issues in the Victoria area. The contest’s theme is consistent with the Air Victoria mission: to promote voluntary compliance with best practices for improving air quality through public education and research in order to reduce ground level ozone pollution, protect the health of citizens, promote economic development and improve the quality of life in Victoria, Texas.

    “On the Air” will bring understanding about air quality issues to the Victoria community, beginning with youth. Winning PSA’s from “On the Air” will be broadcasted on Victoria television stations throughout the 2008 ozone season (May – October). Washington

  • Spokane - The Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency is teaming up with the local National Weather Service to host/promote a variety of local activities, including: local government proclamations, news releases and posters/flyers for the county’s CommuteTrip Reduction Program.

West Virginia

  • Charleston – The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is holding Air Quality Action Day at the West Virginia Power Park on April 27, 2008. For more information, please visit www.wvdep.org
