About EPA's Cleanup Program
Cleanup
EPA's Radiation Site Cleanup Program uses the best available science to develop risk assessment tools and guidance for cleaning up sites that are contaminated with radioactive materials. The Cleanup Program also provides technical support and expertise to EPA's Superfund program.
Published reports, guidance documents, and fact sheets address the following topics:
- risk assessment using radio nuclide slope factors
- stabilization/solidification processes for mixed waste
- management options for laboratory generated mixed waste
- radiation and mixed waste incineration
- electro kinetics remediation
- computer groundwater modeling for radioactive and mixed waste contaminated sites
EPA is collaborating with other federal agencies that have radiation protection responsibilities to develop consensus protocols for site cleanup and analytical laboratory methods:
- Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM), a multi-agency survey and compliance demonstration document;
- Multi-Agency Radiation Laboratory Protocols Manual (MARLAP) is being developed as a multi-agency guidance manual for project managers and radio analytical laboratories;
- Guidance and technical documents.
