FEMA extends Operation Blue Roof Deadline to Oct. 23 for Harris, Galveston and Jefferson Counties

Property owners wanting a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers “Blue Roof” have extra time to visit Right-of-Entry Collection Centers in Harris, Galveston and Jefferson counties.

The program is funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Under the program authorized for the disaster recovery, Corps contractors install plastic sheeting as a temporary solution that allows individuals to remain in their residence until they can make more permanent repairs.

Residents must first sign a Right of Entry form at one of the collection sites throughout Harris, Galveston and Jefferson counties. These ROEs allow crews to come onto private property to install the free temporary roofing.

Texas residents can call 1-888-ROOF-BLU (1-888-766-3258) to find the nearest location to sign a Right of Entry form. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. (more)

Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas on Veterans Day

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will waive all day use fees for veterans, active, reserve and guard service members and their families at its recreation areas nationwide on November 11.

"It is our intent to honor and support the men and women who have served our nation in the armed services," said Steve Stockton, director of Civil Works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. "We chose this occasion to encourage our veterans, active duty personnel and their families to come enjoy one of the more than 2,400 Corps-operated recreation sites nationwide. Whether you like to walk, jog, bike, hunt, fish, swim, boat, bird watch or study nature, we invite you to visit a Corps lake near you.” (more)

 

Deadline extended for public comment on proposed new Principles to revise the Economic and Environmental Principles and Guidelines for Water and Related Land Resources Implementation Studies

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced an extension of the deadline for public written comments on proposed new draft Principles for the ongoing revision of the “Economic and Environmental Principles and Guidelines for Water and Related Land Resources Implementation Studies,” dated March 10, 1983.  Written comments will be accepted through Wednesday, October 22.  The original deadline was October 15.
