Proposal To use the RDC, you must send a complete proposal to the
RDC Director, as an email attachment. To make this process as easy as possible, we've provided
a proposal checklist
and a
sample proposal.
Proposal
Review
Upon receipt, the proposal will be evaluated by a
review committee for feasibility, content, and disclosure
risk. The committee meets on a rolling basis. An RDC
Staff Analyst will contact the researcher(s) within a week
ofthe completed review.
The total turnaround time is about 6-8 weeks.

Scientific
and technical feasibility of the project
Appropriateness
of the proposed data set(s) for the project

of resources at the RDC
Risk
of disclosure of restricted information
For
projects using NCHS data, whether the proposed project is in accordance with
the mission of the NCHS, which is to provide statistical information that
will guide actions and policies to improve the health of the American
people.
Review Committee Actions:
The Proposal Review Committee will issue one of the
following decisions:
Approve
Revise
and resubmit
Disapprove
Please note:
Approval of an application does not constitute endorsement by NCHS of the
substantive, methodological, theoretical, policy relevance, or merit of
the proposed research. NCHS approval only constitutes a judgment that this
research, as described in the application, is not an illegal use of the
requested data file and that there is high probability that the project can
be successfully completed in the RDC.
