Course Formats

Web-Based Courses

There are two types of web-based courses:

PDF Courses

Each PDF course includes content material, as well as an online test and certificate of mastery. We encourage you to print the course material to use as a study guide and as a reference for the online test. CEU credits are available for PDF courses, however, you must be a registered APTI user.

Online Courses

For online courses, all material is included within the web application and no material needs to be downloaded.  CEU credits are not available for online courses, however, upon successful completion of the online test, the user will receive a certificate for their records. APTI registration is not required for online courses. APTI is in the process of developing and converting classroom and self-instructional courses to online courses.   As these are completed, they will be added to the web-based course list.

Web Video

Video segments which are viewable from the web. These segments are in Flash, Windows Media Player, or other popular format and vary in length from about 15 minutes to 2 hours. Registration is not required for web video. See the list of web video selections.

Classroom Courses

Classroom courses are presented by recognized professionals, including consultants and university faculty of the Area Training Centers (ATC). Courses are taught at these universities and other locations as indicated in the APTI consolidated classroom schedule. In order to receive a certificate of completion for a classroom course, you must pass a post test, complete class assignments, attend/participate in class sessions, and submit a course evaluation. (Other requirements may apply depending on the nature of the course). Employees of multi-state, state, local, and Tribal air pollution control agencies must register for scheduled classroom courses by contacting the course provider/host. Individuals from the private sector are welcome to participate in classroom courses, but should contact the sponsoring organization for space and fee information no less than two weeks prior to the course start date.

Telecourses

There are two types of telecourses:

APTI 300 and 400 Level Telecourses

Telecourses are delivered through satellite broadcasts received in designated downlink sites. They are designed for a broad audience and use audiovisual materials that are often not available in other courses. As with classroom courses, instructors are recognized professionals in the subject area.  To register for a 300 or 400 level course, you must first contact your downlink site coordinator and then register through APTI using the APTI application form.

Telecourse Workshops

Most telecourse workshops focus on emerging issues and specialty areas.  To participate in a workshop, you must contact the Air Pollution Distance Learning Network (APDLN) Site Coordinator responsible for the site you will attend. Seating at most sites is limited, so please contact the appropriate site coordinator in advance of the broadcast date to confirm seating and availability of course materials. APTI registration is not required for workshops.

Self-Instructional Courses

Self-instructional courses are available free of charge to employees of multi-state, state, local and Tribal government air pollution control agencies.  Please check the Web-based courses to see if the course is available online. Courses that are not available online can be obtained by registering through APTI using the APTI application form.   In order to receive CEU credits for a self-instructional course, you must register with APTI.
