Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator
CDC, Nutrition and Physical Activity
By entering current body weight and height, the BMI calculator can
determine BMI value as a measure of weight status.
CDC Growth Charts
CDC, National Center of Health Statistics
The growth charts consist of a series of percentile curves that illustrate
the distribution of selected body measurements in U.S. children. Pediatric
growth charts have been used by pediatricians, nurses, and parents to
track the growth of infants, children, and adolescents in the United
States since 1977. This site provides specific growth charts, educational
materials, and data tables related to the growth charts.

The Inventory of Qualitative Research provides basic information about
qualitative studies that have been conducted in nutrition, physical

This site describes approaches used by schools to encourage changes in
nutrition and physical activity behaviors among students. Summaries of

The Community
Guide – Nutrition*
The Community Guide conducts systematic reviews to summarize what is known
about the effectiveness, economic efficiency, and feasibility of
interventions to promote community health and prevent disease. This link
provides information about reviews that are planned or in progress
regarding the effectiveness of selected population-based intervention
programs addressing nutrition.
The
DASH Eating Plan
National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
"DASH" stands for "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension," a clinical
study that tested the effects of nutrients in food on blood pressure.
Study results indicated that elevated blood pressures were reduced by an
eating plan that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy foods
and is low in saturated fat, total fat, and cholesterol.
The Dietary
Guidelines for Americans, 2005
Published jointly by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and
the Department of Agriculture (USDA), provides health education
professionals with the latest science-based nutrition and physical
activity recommendations.
The
Dietary Guidelines Tool Kit is a compilation of consumer-friendly
materials such as brochures and Web sites to assist professionals and the
general public in understanding the key points of the guidelines.

is about encouraging and teaching kids and adults to eat healthy and be
physically active everyday.
Educational Resources
USDA's Food and
Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) Resource Lists help nutrition
professionals and consumers locate information and materials for specific
nutrition topics. Compiled by Nutrition Information Specialists, the lists
provide resources in a variety of formats including articles, pamphlets, books, audio-visuals, and website links.
FruitsandVeggiesMatter.gov
This Web site supports the "Fruits and Veggies - More Matters"
initiative, which encourages the consumption of fruits and vegetables for
improved public health. You can calculate your personal fruit and vegetable
needs, find healthy fruit and vegetable recipes, and learn new ideas for
eating fruits and vegetables.
MyPyramid.gov:
Tools for Professionals
Department of Agriculture (USDA)
The MyPyramid Web site provides information specifically for
professionals, in addition to the content for consumers. Professional
content includes a peer-to-peer PowerPoint presentation that details the
background and development of MyPyramid. Information explaining food
intake patterns, calorie levels, and educational framework are also
provided.
MyPyramid Tracker
Department of Agriculture (USDA)
MyPyramid Tracker is an online dietary and physical activity assessment
tool that provides information on your diet quality, physical activity
status, related nutrition messages, and links to nutrient and physical
activity information.
