The Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet) conducts population-based surveillance in ten sites for laboratory-confirmed cases of infection caused by nine pathogens (Campylobacter, Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora, Listeria, Salmonella, Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O157, Shigella, Vibrio, and Yersinia). Since 2000, FoodNet has also conducted surveillance for post-diarrheal hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) in nine sites through a network of pediatric nephrologists and infection-control practitioners and a review of hospital discharge data.
