Opportunities
In
addition to the Ferguson Fellowship program the Office of Minority
and Women's Health promotes a number of other training opportunities
of special interest to racial and ethnic minority students. These

American
Indian Science and Engineering Society
(AISES) Internship Program |
The
American Indian Science and Engineering society (AISES) is a national
nonprofit organization which nurtures building of community by bridging
science and technology with traditional native values. The Internship
Program provides opportunities for American Indians and Native Alaskans
to pursue studies in science, engineering and technology areas.

Society for Microbiology (ASM)/
National Centers for Infectious Diseases (NCID)
Post-doctoral Research Associates Program |
The
program provides postdoctoral scientists opportunities to conduct
novel research with the overall objective of developing practical
applications of microbiology, immunology and epidemiology for the
diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases.

Association
of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) |
The
Association of Schools of Public Health is a national organization
representing the deans, faculty and students of accredited member
schools of public health and other programs seeking accreditation
as schools of public health. The fellowship program was established
to strengthen the relationship between the academic public health
community and public health practice agencies.

of Teachers of Preventive Medicine is the national professional

Offering
one and two year Fellowships designed to train and prepare scientists
for careers in public health laboratories nationwide, this program

Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) is a unique 2-year, post graduate
program of service and on-the-job training for health professionals

Association of Colleges and Universities
(HACU) National Internship Program |
This
program is one of the many programs the Hispanic Association of
Colleges and Universities offer students to fulfill their mission,
which is to increase college attendance and graduation rates for
Hispanics.

Hispanic-Serving
Health Professions Schools, Inc. |
The
Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) is a non-profit
organization established in response to "Educational Excellence
for Hispanic Americans." The Association was established with
support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as
a part of the DHHS "Hispanic Agency for Action Initiative"
The program provides Hispanics/Latinos with internship opportunities
to explore potential public health careers.

Health Professions Foundation |
The
Minority Health Professions Foundation is a nonprofit educational,
scientific and charitable organization. Through programs and funding
it provides support for professional education, research and prevention
programs to member institutions of the Association of Minority Health
Professions School (AMHPS). Their primary mission is to engage the
collective resources, scholarship and technology of member institutions
to facilitate and promote optimum health among poor and minority
people.

A. Ferguson Fellowship/National Center for Infectious Diseases
(NCID)
Summer Research Program |
The
James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Summer Research Fellowship
Program provides opportunities for minority students to gain knowledge
of the NCID activities. The program's long-term goal is to influence
students to consider careers in public health, and disciplines needed
by NCID.

Public
Health Prevention Service (PHPS) |
Public
Health Prevention Service is a unique three year on-the-job training
program designed to: provide training through service; develop leadership
for local, state and national public health; build public health
infrastructure; and promote health through prevention. It is part
of the Epidemiology Program Office (EPO) of CDC, and involves a
year of work with two different assignments at the CDC in Atlanta.
Subsequent years are at a state or local health department.

Health Summer Fellowship for Minority Students |
The
Public Health Summer Fellowship for Minority Student addresses the
shortage of minority professionals in public health. The purpose
of the program is to expose students to the excitement, relevance
and promise of public health at a time when the experience can influence
their career choice and professional goals.

Summer
Research Internship Program Project IMHOTEP |
Project
IMHOTEP is designed for undergraduate students with some training
in biostatistics, epidemiology, occupational safety and health or
the health sciences. It provides participants with intensive research
and data analysis with experts at the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
