This reminder of CMS policy is directed to all users registered in IACS.

Please note that this email is a recurring notice distributed by the MMA Help Desk every 60 days. Receipt of this email does not indicate a violation has occurred; it is intended only to remind IACS users of the importance of adhering to CMS policy.  

IMPORTANT: This CMS policy has been updated. Effective May 14, 2007, IACS users may not change their password more than once per day using the website utility. If you need to change your password more than once in a given day, please contact the MMA Help Desk for assistance.

As a reminder, the IACS application requires users to change passwords every 60 days. If you receive a warning stating that your password has expired, please follow the steps below to reset your password: 

Step 1:        Go to https://applications.cms.hhs.gov

Step 2:        Read the Privacy Statement and select "Enter CMS Portal"

Step 3:        Select the "Account Management" link on the blue menu bar and then the "My Profile" link

Step 4:        In the User ID field, enter your GUID

Step 5:        In the Password field, enter your current password

Step 6:        You should now be prompted to change your password

Password Rules:

         Must be 8 characters in length

         Must contain at least two alpha characters and one number (no special characters)

         Alpha characters must be mixed case (i.e., must have at least one upper case letter and one lower case letter)

         Cannot begin with a number

         Must not have more than 4 consecutive characters of any of the past 6 passwords

         Must not contain the GUID

         Must be different from the previous 6 passwords

         Must not contain "special words" such as sports team names, company names, user names/IDs, months of the year, etc

If you continue to experience password-related issues after following the above steps, you may send an e-mail to the MMA Help Desk (mmahelp@cms.hhs.gov) requesting to have your password reset. Please include your 7-character IACS user ID (GUID) in the body of the e-mail.
