GOVERNOR, LT. GOVERNOR AND CABINET TOUR SUPERFERRY

July 18 - Governor Lingle, Lt. Governor Aiona and members of their cabinet toured the Hawai`i Superferry Alakai.  The ferry, which arrived in Hawai`i earlier this month, is expected to begin service later this summer and will offer daily service between O`ahu and Kaua`i and O`ahu and Maui.  "It is critical to have options for travel within the islands," the Governor said.  "This is a great option."

In the event of a civil emergency, the Superferry will be at the Governor's immediate disposal.  The vessel is capable of transporting emergency vehicles, supplies and crews in weather conditions that may prevent aircraft from flying.
