GOVERNOR HONORS UNITED CHINESE SOCIETY'S 2008 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

December 9 - Governor Lingle presided over the installation of 2008 officers of the United Chinese Society and recognized the organization's 2008 Citizen of the Year. 

"Hawai`i's Chinese community is at the center of our vibrant social fabric and United Chinese Society has played a key role for more than 120 years," said Governor Lingle.

The Governor addressed the importance of building upon Hawai`i's ties with China to provide opportunities for the economy, share in progress in technology and innovation and create brighter futures for young people.

Governor Lingle joined the United Chinese Society in recognizing Victor Lim as the 2008 Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the community.

Lim helped launch the Asian Pacific Island American Scholarship Fund and has provided leadership to numerous community organizations.

"Victor and the United Chinese Society are models for all of Hawai`i," Governor Lingle said.  "Their work shows that through selfless service, we can make life better for all."
