GOVERNOR ATTENDS GRAND OPENING OF FACILITY FOR MEDICALLY FRAGILE CHILDREN

March 15 - Governor Lingle emphasized the importance of caring for those who need it most at the grand opening of Kulana Malama (Center for Caring), the first facility in the Pacific providing skilled nursing care for medically fragile children in a residential setting.  The goal of the facility is to prepare children and families to manage care needs away from the facility, support individualized intervention and support those who cannot leave their home.  It includes 30 beds for children needing long-term and chronic care for their medical needs. Two apartment suites are also on the site, where family members and caregivers learn about equipment and monitoring systems before taking their child home. Developer Gordon Ito funded the $20 million project
