GOVERNOR LINGLE ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP TO TRANSFORM MENTAL HEALTH CARE IN HAWAI‘I

June 6 - Governor Lingle appointed Rupert Goetz, M.D. and Sharlene Chun-Lum as co-leaders of the Governor’s Mental Health Transformation Working Group, which will work with state and mental health professionals to lead the effort to transform the delivery of quality mental health services across the state.  "I was concerned that we do it right: To design and implement services across the islands, not only central Oahu. We have the money, the leadership and the community; all the pieces to make sure we get it right. This is the time to make it happen.  No task is too big when done together by all," the Governor said.

The working group will implement a five-year, $10.95 million Mental Health Transformation State Incentive Grant that was awarded to Hawai‘i by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) last October.  Members of the group will include senior executives from departments, agencies and offices that deliver, fund, or administer services, as well as mental health advocates, consumers and their families, and service and health insurance providers.
