To administer Oregon’s fuel tax laws and administrative rules consistently and fairly. To accurately process and audit fuel tax reports and refunds. To provide our customers with prompt and courteous service.

Who We Are |
|
The Fuels Tax Group is part of the Financial Services Branch of the Oregon Department of Transportation. The group currently consists of 17 employees, including managers, professional and technical staff.

What We Do |
|
The group has three main functions.
- Licensing and tax report processing for Motor Vehicle Fuel dealers and Use Fuel licensees.
- Fuels tax refund processing.
- Tax compliance audit services.
In addition to administering the Fuels Tax Law pursuant to Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 319, we also administer the fuels tax ordinances for Multnomah County, Washington County and the cities of Woodburn, Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, Veneta, Tigard, Milwaukie, Coquille, Coburg, Astoria, Warrenton and Canby.

Types of Taxes We Collect |
|
Oregon Motor Vehicle Fuel consists of gasoline, aircraft fuel (i.e. aviation gasoline and jet fuel) and ethanol blends.
Oregon Use Fuel consists of diesel, biodiesel, propane, compressed natural gas and any fuel other than gasoline used in a motor vehicle.
Multnomah County and Washington County Motor Vehicle Fuel consists of gasoline and ethanol blends.
Motor Vehicle Fuel for the cities of Woodburn, Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, Veneta, Tigard, Milwaukie, Astoria, Warrenton and Canby consists of gasoline, ethanol blends, and diesel.

How Taxes Are Used |
