Community programs and education

What if your husband collapsed from cardiac arrest while mowing the lawn? Could you help? If your elderly mother had a stroke or became disabled, could you prevent falls and injuries in her home? If the 8.5 earthquake predicted for the Puget Sound Region strikes tomorrow, are you prepared to survive for 3 days without help?

The EMS Community Programs and Education Section can help you save a family member by learning CPR and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator! We can help you learn to prevent falls in the homes of elderly family members! We can help you prepare your home to be on your own after an earthquake! We can help you to be a more prepared citizen.

The Community Programs and Education Section of the EMS Division provides community-based programs to enhance three critical links in the Chain of Survival, including Early Access to 911, Early CPR and Early Defibrillation. These programs include public awareness and education to citizens of King County regarding Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training, recognizing medical emergencies, calling 911 for medical assistance, injury prevention and health education on how to prepare for disasters in our community.

The emergency medical dispatch program also provides EMD Guidelines for dispatchers and pre-arrival instructions to assist callers in providing first aid, CPR or defibrillation prior to the arrival of emergency medical personnel.

We also assist Emergency Responders by providing Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Peer Support Programs.
