PREPAID HEALTH CARE ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBERS
Dr.
John McDonnell has been a member of the Hawaii Prepaid Health Care
Advisory Council since 1990. He is a Board Certified Allergist/Immunologist
in private practice in Kaneohe. Dr. McDonnell received his M.D. degree from
the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, New Jersey,
where he also trained, and became board Certified as a Pediatrician. After
two years of U.S. Army service as a Pediatrician at Fort Sill, Oklahoma,
he completed an Allergy-Immunology Fellowship at Fitz Simmons Medical Center,
affiliated with National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine
in Denver, Colorado. He thereafter became Board Certified as an Allergist-Immunologist.
Dr. McDonnell served a three-year tour of duty as Chief of Allergy and Immunology
at the Tripler Army Medical Center before retiring from active duty in 1981.
Dr. McDonnell continued to serve in the Army Reserve until 1999.
Dr. McDonnell is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the John
A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. He has served as
President for the Hawaii Allergy Society, Honolulu County Medical Association,
and the Hawaii Medical Association and currently serves on the Tobacco Prevention
and Control Trust Fund Advisory Board which overseas monies from the National
Master Settlement of 1987 with the Tobacco Industry. In addition, Dr. McDonnell
serves on the Hawaii State Board of Medical Examiners and Hawaii Vocal Art
Ensemble, and previously served on the American Lung Association Board of
Directors. Dr. McDonnell annually volunteers at the Hawaii Asthma Camp.
