During National African American History
Month, we honor the heritage and accomplishments of African
Americans and recognize their extraordinary contributions to the
United States.1
According
to the 2000 U.S. Census, those who identify as Black or African
American (alone or in combination with another race) constitute
approximately 12.9% of the American population -- about 36.4 million
individuals.2
The Census Bureau projects that by the year 2050 there will be more
than 60 million African American individuals in the United States,
comprising 14.6% of the population.3 |
