Malaria Vaccine Development Branch

Antigen Research Unit

The Antigen Research Unit plays a crucial role within MVDB by identifying and evaluating antigen candidates. Candidates for MVDB’s next generation of vaccines are identified through collaboration, in-house research, and review of the literature. Candidate antigens are generally expressed in E. coli, subjected to in vitro refolding, and purified to homogeneity. The antimalarial potential of these molecules is evaluated in several models and assays, and candidates showing potential are assigned a project manager who oversees their further development and testing through MVDB’s production matrix.
