In order to inform the public about how to avoid asthma triggers in homes, schools and other buildings, EPA collaborates with a network of non-profit and governmental organizations. These partner organizations play an important role in getting the word out about environmental asthma triggers and environmental management techniques.

Can EPA Provide Materials for My Asthma Event at No-Cost?

Yes. EPA has developed a wide variety of no-cost materials in multiple languages to help raise awareness of asthma and environmental asthma management. Order materials for use at your community outreach events.

Cover of How to Gain Control over Asthma Help Your Child Gain Control Over Asthma, a low-literacy asthma management guide. The brochure provides parents of children with asthma with the information they need to improve their children's quality of life. It is filled with tips on managing asthma by developing a management plan and following some simple steps to minimize exposure to asthma triggers found indoors and out. The brochure includes helpful visuals that display how to implement the suggested steps.

Learn About EPA Partner Activities

EPA partners with national organizations, Federal Agencies, health care plans, providers and researchers to implement local outreach and education initiatives. EPA works with partners to implement a wide variety of Community-based Outreach and Education programs. There are many different types of outreach programs designed to increase awareness of asthma and environmental asthma management.

Asthma Awareness Month

Each year, in the month of May, EPA joins international, national, and local Asthma Awareness Month Activities to increase public understanding of asthma. Throughout the month, EPA organizes events, conducts media outreach, releases new materials and supports local Asthma Awareness Month efforts. EPA developed the Asthma Awareness Month Event Planning Kit to help local organizers coordinate Asthma Awareness Month Events.

How Can I Learn More About Environmental Asthma Triggers?

EPA supports scientific research to investigate links between environmental factors and asthma. We strive to make sure the public has access to the latest science about how the environment can affect asthma symptoms. EPA provides information about common indoor asthma triggers and recommendations for reducing exposure to them. Environmental triggers that are commonly found indoors include:

Factors in the outdoor environment can also trigger asthma. EPA provides daily updates on air quality forecasts to help asthma patients and other sensitive populations manage their exposure to environmental risks outdoors. Visit EPA's Air Quality Index site at www.epa.gov/airnow to see the air quality forecast for today.
