FSIS Adjudications
|
FSIS conducts administrative proceedings (adjudications) to refuse or withdraw exemptions from custom slaughter
and processing facilities or other businesses that operate under exemption from the inspection requirements of
the FMIA and PPIA. When sanitary conditions or practices at these businesses create health hazards, or for certain
other violations, FSIS will issue a Notice of Ineligibility (complaint) requiring the business to stop operations.
The business has the opportunity to correct the violations, contest FSIS' action at a hearing, or enter into a
settlement agreement (consent agreement) with FSIS. Consent agreements allow the business to resume operations
based on specified conditions to ensure compliance and protect the public. In some cases, FSIS issues an order
(decision and order) to keep the business closed. The table below provides links to the Quarterly Enforcement
Report, which provides information on these proceedings, and consent agreements or orders in these cases.
