Today's MVT salutes the builders of the American Dream-all the many and varied home construction trades. A century ago, three in four families lived in rental housing. Today, almost seven of ten own their own homes. All of history's kings and emperors could only dream about the luxuries that are basic to even our most modest homes: Heating, cooling, running water, toilets and showers, laundry and kitchen appliances, power and lights.
