Edmund A. Booth, Jr. received a B.B.A. degree from the University of Georgia in 1967 and a J.D. degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1970. He has served as Assistant United States Attorney in this district since May 16, 1971, and was the Chief of the Civil Section from 1975 through 1988. In July 1986, he was appointed as First Assistant United States Attorney, and he served in that capacity until 2007. He served as a member of the Civil Justice Reform Act Committee for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia from 1991 through 1994, under an appointment by Chief United States District Judge B. Avant Edenfield.

Mr. Booth served as Interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia from April 21, 2001, until November 16, 2001, under an appointment by Attorney General John Ashcroft, as extended by Chief U. S. District Judge Dudley H. Bowen, Jr.. He served as Acting United States Attorney from February 8, 2007 until his appointment by the Attorney General as Interim United States Attorney on September 6, 2007. Mr. Booth was nominated by President Bush to be the United States Attorney on November 15, 2007. He was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on December 13, 2007, and appointed by President Bush on December 14, 2007. He was administered the oath of office by Chief U. S. District Judge William T. Moore, Jr., in a private ceremony on December 18, 2007.
Mr. Booth has served with distinction during his entire career in the office. In 1994, and again in 2003, he received recognition by the Director of the Executive Office for United States Attorneys with the national Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney.
