Border Service Contractor

Position:  Border Service Contractor (20-40 hours per week)

Starting Salary:  $18.00/hour (GS-07 rank)

Job Description: 

Contractor shall be required to provide services in support of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Border Trade Initiative (BTI) activities at the U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC).  The USEAC provides a broad array of counseling services and export assistance programs designed to help U.S. business expand export sales to existing markets or penetrate new markets worldwide.  The Contractor will specifically provide support in implementing BTI activities, developed to increase U.S. competitiveness along the U.S.-Mexican border. 

Under the BTI, the Contractor shall implement trade promotion activities targeted toward companies across the United States, increasing knowledge of business opportunities within the border region, identifying trade leads and key contacts, and providing step-by-step guidance in exporting U.S. products and services to Mexico. 

Working through existing Commerce industry teams and programs, activities will promote and support the U.S. manufacturing industries, including opportunities for automotive, electronics, plastics, construction, environmental, machine tooling, and other relevant industry sectors.

The work performed will, in part, contribute to programs and services for which Commerce will collect a user fee or contribution from program beneficiaries.

Language: 

Contractor must be fluent in both English and Spanish, and be able to write reports and other substantive pieces in standard business English with minimal guidance and revision.  Must be confident in ability to conduct business in either language, along either side of the border.

Education and Experience:

Contractor should posses an undergraduate degree, preferably in business administration, economics, finance, marketing, engineering, applied manufacturing, or similar field of study.  Five years of experience working in export promotion, business administration, international marketing, or a similar field may be substituted for the applicable degree.

Contractor should have a strong understanding of economic, trade, and business principles.  At full performance level, contractor will demonstrate a solid understanding of the Mexican business environment, have a working knowledge of the maquiladora industry, and be able to explain the processes and requirements of exporting from the United States into Mexico.
