Producing Genomics Research to Accelerate and Enhance Agricultural Production, Biotechnology and Biosecurity

The Microbial Genomics and Bioprocessing Research Unit (MGB) develops new molecular genetic methods to detect, identify and classify microorganisms used in the areas of food safety, plant pathology, and the bioconversion of vegetable oils to value added products.

The MGB unit also manages and maintains the ARS Culture Collection.  This collection is the largest of its kind in the world, with over 85,000 accessions of bacteria and fungi and includes the ARS Patent Culture Collection.
