- Sets national compliance assurance and enforcement priorities through strategic planning and targeting
- Collects and integrates compliance data

- Ensures effectiveness of compliance and enforcement personnel through training
- Improves the quality of regulations
- Works with regions, states, tribes, municipalities, citizen groups and industry

Office of Criminal Enforcement Forensics, and Training
- Investigates the most significant and egregious violators of environmental laws
- Technical and Forensic services for civil and criminal investigations
- Training programs for federal, state and local law enforcement in areas of the environment,
- Investigative, forensic and technical support to the Office of Homeland Defense, the FBI and other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies
- Provides general legal counseling, criminal and civil litigation support, and policy advice
- Develops and implements innovative techniques, practices and procedures using scientific and technical expertise
- Devises specialized methods and/or technical field applications, and transfers these capabilities to state, local and Federal environmental enforcement and compliance assurance programs
- Responds to homeland security related environmental,
biological and chemical incidents

Office of Environmental Justice
- Address environmental and human health concerns in
communities which have been disproportionately and
adversely exposed to environmental harms and risks,
including low-income and/or minority communities

Office of Federal Activities
- Coordinates EPA’s review of all federal Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) prepared by other agencies under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Maintains a national EIS filing system and publishing a weekly notice of EIS documents available for review
- Assures that EPA's own actions comply with NEPA and other environmental requirements
- Provides technical assistance and capacity building for enfironmental compliance, enforcement and impact assessment in other countries
- Works with federal and state agencies, foreign
governments and international organizations in order to
ensure compliance with United States environmental laws

Office of Site Remediation Enforcement
- Facilitates, coordinates and evaluates the enforcement of EPA’s national hazardous waste cleanup programs; including CERCLA (Superfund), RCRA Corrective Action, Oil Pollution Act and underground storage tanks
- Developes and implements enforcement policy and performs program evaluation activities and strategic planning for all OSRE-administered statutes
- Provids national direction and consistency for civil and administrative cleanup enforcement actions
- Serves as the primary point of contact for EPA Regional staff on contemplated and ongoing civil and adminstrative cleanup enforcement action
- Works to achieve prompt site cleanup and maximum
liable party participation in performing and paying for
cleanup in ways which promote environmental justice and
fairness
