The study is being done by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, together with the state health
departments of California, Colorado, and New Jersey. NOVA Research
Company is managing the study data and provided computer software for
answering questionnaires by computer.
The principal investigators
(PIs) are Carol Metcalf (CDC), Kevin Malotte (Long Beach), John Douglas
(Denver), Sindy Paul and Helene Cross (Newark), and Paul Young (NOVA).
The group of investigators also includes Beth Dillon and Beena Varghese
(CDC) and Seth Kalichman (Center for AIDS Intervention Research, Medical
College of Wisconsin). Beth Dillon wrote the counseling protocols and
trained the counselors. Seth Kalichman helped to develop the study
questionnaires. Beena Varghese is leading the study of the
cost-effectiveness of the different forms of HIV testing and counseling
being compared.
