Veterans Issues
As a veteran, Congressman Baca strives to serve those who have served our nation. He is committed to keeping an open dialogue with veterans in the 43rd Congressional district. He is acutely aware of the needs of our proud men and women who have served in the military and will continue to fight to improve their well being.
Addressing Veterans' Needs
One of the biggest problems that veterans encounter is the enormous backlog of claims at the Department of Veteran Affairs. Congressman Baca is attempting to remedy this problem by sponsoring the Veterans Claims Backlog Reduction Act of 2005, H.R. 616. This innovative legislation addresses the backlog of over 450,000 veterans claims. Those who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation should have to wait years to receive their benefits. Through H.R. 616, the claims process can be streamlined to ultimately reduce the backlog.
Honoring our Veterans
Volunteering for our nation's military to protect our citizens is the ultimate sacrifice. It should never be misunderstood and never be forgotten. For this reason, Congressman Baca has introduced H.R. 369, to provide for greater recognition for Veterans Day. Through H.R. 369, Congressman Baca encourages Americans to demonstrate their support for veterans on Veterans Day by asking various institutions and houses of worship to ring bells at 11:00 AM. The Congressman knows what it is to sacrifice to secure our nation's borders and protect interests overseas and believes that honoring our veterans is a small way to repay them for their service.
