Magazines
Q. What media do your magazines come in?
A.  Magazines are available from NLS in a variety of formats: cassette, digital Braille (Web-Braille), and press Braille.  Additionally there are magazines available from independant producers for the price of a subscription.  Please request a copy of Magazines in Special Media catalog from your TBABS representative for more information on magazine services.

Q. Is there a cost for magazines?
A.  TBABS and the National Library Service offer a wide variety of magazines free of charge to eligible registered library users. Other sources of magazines in special formats are available from the producers by paid subscription.

Q. Which magazine titles do you offer?
A.  We have a wide variety of magazines for all interests and age groups. The number of magazines and the specific titles offered may change, depending on the publishers and whether or not they change the availability of a magazine.  Currently approximately 100 titles are available.  A catalog of the titles is available upon request. The catalog is available in Braille, large print, and cassette. Call TBABS and request Magazines in Special Media or visit our website at http://tbabs.org/ and access Magazine Catalog from the menu.

Q. Do I have to return magazines to the Library?
A.  This depends on which of the two types of magazine you receive -- circulating or direct mail magazines. Circulating magazines, as their name implies, are mailed to and from TBABS.  Circulating magazines have a plastic slot on the mailing container with a reversible card.  Please return these magazines to TBABS.  The loan period for circulating magazines is two weeks.

Direct mail magazines are sent to you from the publisher, and they do not have a removable mailing card.  These magazines are yours to keep.
