UNABRIDGED: Digital Audio Books for the Print-Disabled
Unabridged Logo
Download free digital audio books directly to your home computer with Unabridged!

Unabridged is a service that enables patrons to check-out and download digital spoken-word audio books directly to their computers.  The digital audio books can then be played back on a PC, transferred to a portable playback device (MP3 player), or burned onto CDs.

Unabridged patrons need a broadband connection to the internet and a user name and password that can be requested from TBABS.  Instructions on how to log in to and use Unabridged will be sent by email.  The audio files come across in the WMA format and not all portable playback devices, most notably the Bookport, read this format.

In order to listen to audio books on your computer you will need to download the OverDrive MediaConsole.  OverDrive Media Console is free software that lets you checkout and download audio books in high-quality Windows Media Audio format.

If you would like to participate please call Jackie Shepherd at 1-800-452-0292 or send an email to  jackie.b.shepherd@state.or.us

If you have already signed up for Unabridged and are not able to purchase your own MP3 player you can request one by clicking the following link.  DO NOT click this link if you are not signed up for Unabridged.  Request one here.

Unabridged for Students: School Download Library
School Download Library logo
Now students in grades K-12 have their own downloadable library!

Now students in grades K-12 can enjoy a special library created by the folks who brought us Unabridged!  The Unabridged School Download Library has hundreds of grade and age appropriate titles available for checkout.  Most of the titles are available all the time, so students won’t have to wait in line or compete with adult readers for books that they need for school projects and book reports.

Students can visit the Unabridged School Download Library at http://unabridgedsdl.lib.overdrive.com and use their current Unabridged library card and pin number.  If you are not a current Unabridged user, just call Jackie Shepherd at 800-452-0292, extension 85390 to request a library card and pin number.

The Unabridged School Download Library is special for a few reasons.  First of all, most of the books are available at all times.  Secondly, the loan period for the School Download Library is 21 days, giving students plenty of time to read their books and complete any school assigned work.  Finally, the books in the Unabridged School Download Library are not just available in audio format—some titles are also available in eBook format.  This means that some hard-to-find titles can be downloaded in text format and read with a screen reader right on your computer!
