Saving
Searches
You regularly search for citations to articles about asthma
in teenagers. Let's use My NCBI to save the search strategy and
set up an automatic e-mail update.
Demonstration
Click the steps to run the demonstration.
- Step 1: First
run your search in PubMed. Enter asthma in the query box, limit
the search to Adolescent: 13-18 Years and click
Go.
- Step 2: From the Results
screen, click on the Save Search link to the right
of the query box.
- Step 3: PubMed will
open a separate window to start the saving process. (If you
are not
already signed into My NCBI, you will
be prompted to do so.) You can edit the name of the search
if you wish. This name will be part of the Subject line of
automatic
e-mail updates.
- Step 4: Next, select
the Yes button indicating you want updates automatically
e-mailed.
The window will extend to display additional
options for customizing
the update. Note: If you leave the setting as No, the search is saved and
you can update it at your convenience [See
Manually Updating Searches].
- Step 5: Select how
often you want updates and the format if you wish to change
the defaults.
- Step 6: Select the maximum
number of items
to be sent with each update. We’ll
keep the default of 5. Don’t worry about picking a number that is too
low. You can use a link in the e-mail that takes you to the total update results
in
PubMed. If you want to know when an update retrieved no citations, select that
option.
Finally, you can include additional text if you wish. Once you have made all
your selections, click the OK button.
