"Wheels to Wildlife"
If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in."
~Rachel Carson
Environmental education is vital to the success of the National Refuge System. The worth of educating young people about the environment is beyond measure and cultivating this intrinsic value must be pursued with the conviction that the conservation of wildlife and nature depends upon the education of youth. Because children learn about the environment by interacting with it, environmental instruction with hands-on experiences are available for children of all ages.
Such experiences play a crucial role in shaping lifelong attitudes toward wildlife and nature. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is committed to creating such educational experiences. Environmental education programs include on-site activities, outreach programs and classroom experiences for students. There are also special Scout programs.
