Packaging Operations / Contacts

The primary purpose of TMO's Packaging Operations at ORNL is to establish a system that allows customers to initiate a single request to ship radioactive materials in a compliant and efficient manner. In order to provide such a system, Packaging Operations has put into place a system for classifying materials in accordance with various regulations, including those from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the International Air Transport Association, and the International Civil Aviation Organization. In addition, Packaging Operations has implemented a Quality Assurance Program for the procurement of packagings at ORNL that inspects all packagings prior to the customer's utilization. This QA system is established for both Stores stock packagings and direct purchases packagings. The overall operation provides effective and efficient customer service with quality packagings for the customer's use. packaging material warning symbols
