A career in banking is an excellent way to enter the financial services industry because many banking institutions offer significant on-the-job training that allows trainees to rotate among various departments. Consider a job as a bank examiner or teller.
There is a constant demand for accountants in corporate and government environments. There are different accounting specialties as well such as auditors and tax accountants. In addition, accountants who are able to analyze and interpret economic and financial data are in high demand.
Asset management and consumer lending is another major part of banking. Positions in these areas can be found in companies that provide products and services such as:
credit and related services;
investment-related services;
oversight services (accounting, regulatory agencies, and data oversight);
associated marketing services.
Financial planners or financial analysts are involved in wealth management, estate planning, tax planning, and retirement planning. By pursuing this career, you have the opportunity to help clients manage their money better to prepare for their children's education and their own retirement.
Personal financial advisors are involved in loan and credit applications. They have a number of duties, including:
- processing applications for personal loans and bank credit cards;
- interview loan applicants;
- collect and analyze financial data;
- steer loan applications through the committee that must approve the loans; and
- set up repayment schedules.
As you can see, there are a number of different roles for anyone interested in banking.
