Java NEXRAD Tools

Introduction

The NCDC Java NEXRAD Viewer and Data Exporter load Level-II, Level-III and Stage-III XMRG NWS WSR-88D NEXRAD Radar data into a GIS environment. The applications are launched via Java Web Start and run on the client machine while accessing the data locally or remotely from the archive at the NCDC or any URL.

The Java NEXRAD Viewer provides tools for displaying custom data overlays, Web Map Services (WMS), animations and basic filters. The export of images and movies is provided in multiple formats.

The Java NEXRAD Data Exporter allows for data export in both vector point/line/polygon and raster grid formats.

NOTE: The Level-II Super-Resolution Message 31 format is not supported. This format is used in Build 10 Level-II files, starting in 2008, and can be determined if filenames end in V0[1,2,3,4].gz .
HOWEVER: The Message 31 format is now fully supported in the Weather and Climate Toolkit. This toolkit is the successor to the Java NEXRAD Tools, but is still in the BETA testing phase. Please use with caution.
