(Updated September 5) As many Hurricane Gustav evacuees are returning from shelters and other locations, it is important to maintain good hygiene practices—particularly hand hygiene—as protection against diarrhea and other illnesses that commonly occur when water or other essentials are unavailable.
CDC encourages hotels, restaurants and businesses to share health information that CDC developed for people who may be returning to affected areas. The materials are available in English, Spanish and other languages at CDC's Evacuee Educational Materials website.
Partners are also encouraged to add a link to CDC's Emergency Preparedness and Response site to their organization's homepage so that visitors can readily access CDC's health-related, emergency information.
Additionally, CDC will be forwarding regular updates about CDC's response to the hurricane via its e-mail update, CDC Partnership Matters. To receive the update, subscribe to CDC's E-mail Updates (choose "Partners Portal"). Partners may also e-mail CDC's Division of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances at CDC Partnerships, with any questions or comments.
