(The following information is from a Josephine County Sheriff's Office news release)

Per agreed upon protocols between the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and Josephine County District Attorney's Office, the Oregon State Police will be the lead investigative agency into an early Saturday morning fatal shooting investigation involving two Josephine County Sheriff Deputies.

On November 10, 2007 at 2:03 a.m., a call was placed from 28351 Redwood Highway reporting that several intoxicated individuals were involved in a verbal and threatening argument.  The caller told 911 dispatchers that shots had been fired.  Four sheriff deputies were dispatched to the address and arrived at about 2:30 a.m. when they were confronted by an armed male who refused to put down a handgun when ordered to do so.  During the standoff, the armed male fired his weapon at one of the deputies.  That deputy, and one other deputy, shot the male, fatally wounding him.

The names of the involved deputies and the deceased male are being withheld pending approval for release by the Josephine County District Attorney's Office.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Oregon State Police at (541) 776-6114 ext. 236.
