About This Page
Cooperative observers are very much a part of the National Weather Service...collecting much needed weather data. To read more about the observers, look below.
Stoll Award

The National Weather Service has many dedicated weather observers across Arkansas.   It cannot be said enough how valuable these observers are, as they provide temperature and precipitation measurements for their areas at least once a day.   While that sounds like a lot, how about someone who has done it for more than 50 years!

Mr. Bernard M. Walther was presented an Edward H. Stoll Award on February 9, 1999. Yes...it's true.  Mr. Bernard M. Walther was presented an Edward H. Stoll Award on February 9, 1999.  Mr. Walther lives just outside of Cabot. The Stoll award was named for a man who took weather observations for 76 years in central Nebraska.

The award was presented by Ed Pasierb (right), a Hydrometeorological Technician (HTM), and Renee Fair (left), the Meteorologist-in-Charge (MIC)...both of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in North Little Rock.   Mr. Walther's daughter Nancy (Saffle) and son-in-law also attended the ceremony.

Representatives from Southern Region Headquarters (SRH) also helped present the award.  Mike Asmus (second from right), the Regional Cooperative Program Manager, and John Duxbury (right), the Facilities Program Manager, made the trip from Ft. Worth, Texas to Mr. Walther's home. Mike Asmus (second from right), the Regional Cooperative Program Manager, and John Duxbury (right), the Facilities Program Manager, made the trip from Ft.
