Mr.
Gene Peck of Big Fork, Arkansas has been a cooperative observer for the National Weather
Service (NWS) for 10 years (as of June, 2002). During that time, he collected
temperature and rainfall data on a daily basis and sent his measurements to the NWS.
The measurements become part of a national database and are eventually published (for use
by business, government agencies and the general public) by the National Climatic Data
Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Mr. Peck is one of the many cooperative observers
who provides data used by the National Weather Service to make a more accurate weather
forecast. His data is also used to support river forecasting as well as the agricultural,
construction and recreational interests in his area.
For
his efforts, Mr. Peck received a 10 Year Length-of-Service Award. |
