Site: Medical-
Violation: During the last voyage, a passenger had diarrhea and an underlying illness. Per the doctor, this individual did not have diarrhea associated with an infectious process. However, this individual was dispensed anti-diarrheal medication but was not listed in the standardized gastrointestinal illness log.
Recommendation:The log shall list: (1) All reportable cases of gastrointestinal illness; (2) All passengers and crew members who are dispensed antidiarrheal medication from the master of the vessel, the medical staff, or other designated staff.
