Help with U.S. Passports

U.S. Passport Assistance:

Over the past several months, staff members in each of my offices have spent considerable time assisting Virginians to obtain their U.S. passports for their scheduled international travel. The demand for U.S. passports has reached record levels due to the January 2007 implementation of a new law requiring American citizens to have passports when traveling by air to or from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

To find Status and Locator Number:

You may wish to check the status of your application and obtain your "Locator Number" on the Department of State website. The following is a link to the status page: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/status/status_2567.html

For Passport Assistance within 10 Days of Travel:

If you are concerned about obtaining your U.S. passport for an upcoming international departure, please contact one of my offices to request assistance. You will need to provide the following information:

  • Full name as it appears on passport application
  • Passport Agency application Locator number (if available)
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security Number (only last 4 digits IF you have the Passport Agency locator number for your application)
  • Date of travel
  • Travel destination
  • Date application submitted
  • Type of service requested - expedited or routine
  • Contact phone number

In order that my staff may help you as quickly as possible, please click on the link below to determine which of my offices should be contacted to assist you based on your residence in Virginia.  (You will need to provide your zip code to bring up the appropriate contact information.)  If your trip is within 10 days, call the designated office. http://warner.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Casework.StepTwo&CaseworkTopic_id=61d3616b-7e9c-9af9-7af1-8c698cbf1154

For Current Passport Policy:

For specific information with respect to the current policy associated with U.S. citizen air travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, please follow the link below to the webpage of the U.S. Department of State. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

If you do not have a valid passport, and are considering travel outside the U.S. within the coming year, I would strongly encourage you to begin the application process as soon as possible.
