Opportunities open for U.S. companies

ADB BrochureThe ADB’s project lending & grant activities among its developing member countries generate procurement and consulting opportunities for qualified U.S. firms and individuals. U.S. maintains a top cumulative standing in procurement with US $ 1.1 billion (Jan 2002-Dec 2006). In 2006, U.S. won a total of $ 276 million worth of contracts - $230 million came from goods and related services, and civil works, and $ 45 million from consulting services, positioning US first in consulting services among 67 ADB member countries.

Business opportunities occur throughout the ADB project cycle

  • Planned projects: the Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) formerly named as Country Strategy Program (CSP) - provides brief project information for Developing Member Countries’ (DMC) pipeline projects, permitting early targeting by US firms. CPS is a formal document negotiated between the ADB and each DMC. (CS ADB prepares CS ADB Market Briefs based on CSP).
  • When the ADB activates a project, it contracts directly with consulting and engineering design firms to conduct feasibility studies, refine the design and prepare loan documents. This generates business opportunities for U.S. firms early in the project cycle (CS ADB reports new opportunities to US firms monthly via email as International Market Insights).
  • Upon approval of an ADB loan package, the Executing Agency of the DMC prepares bid documents and international tenders for procurement of goods and any additional consulting services required for execution of the project (CS ADB reports these new procurement opportunities to US firms monthly via e-mail as Foreign Government Tenders).

U.S. is an ADB member country; hence, U.S. firms are eligible to bid on all ADB-generated business opportunities. ADB procurement rules prevail throughout the project cycle to ensure open and transparent competition with contract awards based on merits of proposals.
