Consumer Health

We are Consumer Health, a division of the Planning Department.  There are two inspectors in the Consumer Heath Division.  We do health inspections, our main focal point being food establishments.  Inspections of food facilities include full service and fast food restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, school cafeterias, nursing home cafeterias, hospital cafeterias, concession stands, snow cone stands, and temporary events.  We also inspect mobile vendors such as hot trucks, ice cream trucks, and push carts.

Authority to Inspect

City Ordinances Sec. 13-31

(a) The health inspector may inspect any and all things offered for sale, given in exchange or given away for use as food or drink for human consumption.

(b) The health inspector shall conduct an inspection of a food service establishment at least once every six months.

Report of Inspection

City Ordinance Sec. 13-32

Whenever an inspection of a food establishment is made, the health inspector shall record the findings on the inspection report form.  The inspection report form shall summarize the requirements of these rules and shall set forth a weighted point value for each requirement.  The rating score of the establishment shall be the total of the weighted point values for all violations, subtracted from 100.
